Dynamics of Galaxies
General Information about the Conference

General Information

Prof. Grigorij Kuzmin (1917-1988) was an early pioneer of the dynamics of stellar systems, invoking elegant mathematical models. Some results of his investigations form part of the theoretical basis of modern dynamical equilibria. Recent progress in the dynamics of galaxies has focused more on their formation and evolution, driven mainly by both space and ground-based observations and computer simulations. As a celebration of Kuzmin's contributions, the 90th anniversary of his birth will be honored by a major conference on "DYNAMICS OF GALAXIES" at which the tremendous progress of recent years will be reviewed.

The conference will be hosted by the Main Astronomical (Pulkovo) Observatory of Russian Academy of Sciences and Saint Petersburg State University under support of section "Structure and Dynamics of the Galaxy" of Astronomical Council of Russian Academy of Sciences. The conference will be held at the Pulkovo Observatory just outside St. Petersburg, during the week August 5 to 10, 2007. Leading experts and young researchers from Russia and the West will discuss recent advances in galaxy dynamics, including LCDM and Galaxy Formation, Dynamical Processes in Mergers, Limits on the Baryonic Mass Content of Galaxies, Dynamics of Disk Galaxies, and Galactic Modelling.
