Nizhny Novgorod was founded on the confluence of the two great Russian rivers - the Volga and the Oka - by Prince Yuri (George) Vsevolodovich in 1221. Nizhny Novgorod is a capital of Volga (Privolzhsky) Federal District, a large trade city and merchant centre. There have been a lot of unique historical, architectonical, and cultural memorials saved in the city. It gave the basement for UNESCO to include Nizhny Novgorod to the list of top 100 world cities that have world historical and cultural value.
