General information


EGMD-2011 is the Second School on Economic Growth at Lomonosov Moscow State University. The First School took place in July 2009 and attracted about 50 students from all over the world to attend three weekly courses on mathematical approaches in studies of economic growth. EGMD-2011offers an advanced course for graduate/post-graduate students interested in studying the phenomenon of endogenous economic growth from a perspective of formal mathematical analysis. The course includes four lectures complemented by extended round table discussions. The goals are to help the students better understand the key drivers of economic growth and to provide training in strategic economic decision making.

EGMD-2011’s language is English.

After the School the students will receive Official EGMD Certificates of Attendance.

The EGMD-2011 organizers will arrange housing in a good-quality university dormitory for the students.

EGMD-2011’s social program includes a sightseeing bus tour over Moscow and a School Dinner.
 
 
 
 
Venue

Moscow is in the heart of Russia. It is not only the capital and the largest city in Europe – for hundreds of years Moscow has been the cultural, business and scientific center of Russia. The Kremlin, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Red Square, the "Seven Sisters", the Ostankino Tower and other historical places situated in Moscow are known all over the world. Museums and galleries, theatres and concerts are waiting to be discovered for people coming to Moscow. There is a vibrant night life in Moscow – young people have a lot to choose from – jazz music, house music, latino night clubs, bars and restaurants - all located in the downtown area of Moscow.

Moscow lies in the continental climate zone, therefore in winter, temperatures normally drop to approximately −10 œC (14.0 œF).

Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) is the leading University in Russia. MSU has a history of fundamental education dating back to the middle of the 18th century. More than 40 000 undergraduates and about 7 000 postgraduates study at MSU and have a choice of 29 faculties and 450 departments. for study. More than 4 000 professors and lecturers, and about 5 000 researchers work for MSU’s faculties and research institutes.


The Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics (CMC) at MSU is a leading Russian educational center specializing in the fields of applied mathematics, informatics and computer science. CMC was established in 1970. World-renowned mathematicians Lev Pontryagin and Andrei Tikhonov worked at CMC. CMC has internationally recognized scientific schools in various fields of applied mathematics (ill-posed problems, mathematical physics, game theory, control theory, optimization theory and system analysis), informatics (cybernetics, mathematical logics and operations research) and computer science (applied and theoretical programming, architecture of calculations systems and networks).
